A growing trend I’ve seen within the herbalism community is pairing cannabis with smokable herbs to enhance the flavor and effects, while ushering in healing of the mind, body, and soul. Herbs have been used for smoking for thousands of years and has played a crucial role in many spiritual communities and rituals, as well as for health purposes. They’re non-addictive and is a phenonimal replacement for tobacco.
And the biggest question I’m asked is: Which herbs are safe for smoking?
While there’s over 50 smokable herbs today, I’ll be sharing my top 10 herbs and their benefits. Keep in mind, if you’re not a canna connoisseur that’s perfectly fine. These herbs can be combined into a yummy herbal smoke blend. In fact, the apothecary is stocked with 5 different herbal smoke blends that come in 3 convenient sizes! Perfect for those who don’t want to deal with mixing, measuring, and all that stuff.
Now let’s get into this list! Here are my 10 favorite smokable herbs:
Mullein Leaf: has a long history of use for so many lung benefits. Gentle and non-toxic, it’s great for reducing anxiety due to its relaxing effects. Its light and airy taste make it a great tobacco substitution and base for smoke blends.
Lavender: its aroma alone eases stress and anxiety and promotes deeper states of relaxation. Alleviates insomnia, relaxes the muscles, and improves the sleep cycle process.
Damiana: stimulates libido, enhances relaxation and sexual stimulation, increases blood flow, and boosts energy. Damiana has been used as a powerful aphrodisiac across various cultures, dated back to ancient times.
Rose Petals: produces a sense of inner peace, evokes mild euphoria, acts as an aphrodisiac, and decreases depression. Rose petals also balance the heart chakra, creating space for self-love and sensual expression.
Wild Lettuce: widely known for having mild sedative and pain relieving properties. Wild Lettuce provides a euphoric feeling which is great for reducing stress and anxiety.
Gotu Kola: known as the ‘herb of longevity’ by boosting one’s energy and overall vitality. Alleviates stress, mental fatigue, and memory loss while also improving brain functionality and lifting one’s mood.
Blue Lotus: the official flower of the Egyptian sun god Ra. This sacred flower is used to induce sublime states of relaxation, which allows the mind’s eye to blossom to higher levels of consciousness.
Blue Vervain: has a relaxing effect and reduces mental chatter, stress, tension, and nervousness. Also helps with lucid dreaming and astral projection.
Passionflower- the name says it all. Passionflower helps balance emotions and is a power aphrodisiac.
Klip Dagga: a South African plant commonly referred to as ‘wild cannabis’. This herb is 100% legal and safe to consume while experiencing the same medicinal benefits and effects of cannabis.
Granted this list is just the tip of the iceberg, as you continue your research on this, always remember that not every herb that’s safe for ingestion is safe for smoking. Take your time and research the herbs you may be curious about.
